The Shape of Matthew 24-25: Analysis – Part 6

Segueing from girls to gold, Jesus continues to present Himself as a wiser Solomon who tries the hearts of men.

Read the Overview.  Read Part 1.  Read Part 2.  Read Part 3Read Part 4. Read Part 5.

The “forming” section of Matthew 24-25 views things from an earthly, priestly perspective. The “filling” section views things from a heavenly, kingly perspective. Jesus has described the king’s house and the king’s virgins, and now He describes Solomon’s gold. The primary allusion now becomes evident: it is the laws for Israel’s kings in Deuteronomy 17:14-20, laws that the Herods, like Israel’s kings before the captivity, were violating.
